Editorial Services for Historical Fiction Writers

At History Through Fiction, our primary mission is publishing exceptional historical narratives. To maintain a clear distinction between publishing and freelance editorial work, editorial and coaching services are now offered through The Narrative Guild, a collaborative editorial collective co-founded by Colin Mustful.

The Narrative Guild was created to provide professional editorial guidance, manuscript development, and coaching for serious storytellers—particularly writers of historical fiction—while preserving the integrity and independence of the History Through Fiction publishing platform.

Authors who work with The Narrative Guild are not guaranteed publication with History Through Fiction, nor is editorial work required for submission consideration.

Why The Narrative Guild?

The Narrative Guild was founded to create a dedicated space for editorial collaboration, manuscript development, and writer support outside the publishing process.

By separating freelance editorial services from History Through Fiction’s publishing operations, we are able to:

  • maintain clear editorial independence

  • provide more focused support for writers at every stage

  • collaborate with a broader network of editorial professionals

  • preserve the integrity of the acquisitions process

This structure allows both organizations to better serve authors while remaining aligned in their commitment to exceptional storytelling.

Work With Colin Mustful Through The Narrative Guild

Colin Mustful continues to work directly with select authors through The Narrative Guild, a collaborative editorial collective dedicated to helping serious storytellers develop compelling, historically grounded narratives.

As the founder and publisher of History Through Fiction, Colin has spent years evaluating manuscripts, guiding authors through the publication process, and championing historical fiction that informs, entertains, and endures. Through The Narrative Guild, he now offers editorial and coaching services in a space intentionally separate from the publishing operations of History Through Fiction.

Colin specializes in historical fiction, narrative nonfiction, and historically inspired storytelling, with services including manuscript critiques, developmental editing, copy and line editing, proofreading, and long-term book coaching. His editorial approach balances craft, historical authenticity, and reader engagement while preserving each writer’s unique voice and vision.

Authors who work with Colin receive thoughtful, professional guidance shaped by his experience as an editor, publisher, historian, and award-winning author. Whether you are refining an early draft, preparing for publication, or seeking long-term mentorship, The Narrative Guild provides a collaborative environment designed to help writers grow with confidence and clarity.
