Write. Revise. Repeat. Summer Writing Sprints with HTF

Sharpen your storytelling skills and build momentum for your historical fiction submission with Write. Revise. Repeat., a three-part writing sprint series designed to inspire and support your creative process.

Each 90-minute session includes:

🖋 Three Timed Writing Exercises (45 min)

  • Character Creation (15 min): Explore your character’s internal world—thoughts, beliefs, and worldview—and how that shapes their actions and perceptions.

  • Setting Immersion (15 min): Dive into the physical world of your story using all five senses. What makes this place distinct, dangerous, or compelling?

  • Bringing It Together (15 min): Place your character in the setting you created. How do they interact with it? What emotions or memories does it evoke? Is it familiar or strange?

💬 Breakout Room Chats (30 min)
Connect with fellow writers to discuss your work and process:

  • What are you writing—for the contest or another project?

  • What challenges are you facing?

  • What are your goals, and how are you pursuing them?

  • What resources could support your writing journey?

🧠 Group Reflection (15 min)
We’ll come back together for a brief wrap-up and group discussion to share takeaways, encouragement, and next steps.

These sprints are created to support entries for our Third Annual Short Story Contest, open June 15 – August 15, 2025. All submissions will be considered for publication in a paperback anthology. Prizes include:
🏆 $250 Grand Prize
🥈 $150 Runner-Up
📖 $75 for All Shortlisted Stories + Publication
📬 Personalized feedback on every entry

Let these sprints jumpstart your creativity, deepen your characters and settings, and move you one step closer to a polished, powerful historical fiction story.

Open to all writers. Join one sprint or all three!
