History Through Fiction, an independent publisher of historical fiction, is proud to announce the signing of author Dr. Ezra Harker Shaw.

Born in Scotland, now living in London, Dr. Ezra Harker Shaw is a non-binary writer who loves all things Gothic. While earning their PhD, Harker Shaw explored the collaborative writing of Percy Byssche Shelley and Mary Shelley, a project that led them to write The Aziola’s Cry, a novel that will be published next year by History Through Fiction. A celebrated performance poet, Harker Shaw regularly hosts poetry nights in London, and was nominated for the Outspoken Prize for Poetry. Also a playwright, Harker Shaw has written Tolstoy Tried to Kill My Partner and The Grouchy Octopus Story, both of which were originally performed in London by the Pajoda Theatre Co. Harker Shaw has a great passion for teaching, whether lecturing at university, or running workshops with young writers across the world. Their podcast, Meliorist Writing features writing tips and interviews with other creatives.

Harker Shaw’s novel, The Aziola’s Cry: A Novel of the Shelley’s, explores the young, tragic lives of authors Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley as seen through their own eyes. The novel begins in 1814 as a teenaged Mary falls in love with young radical Percy Bysshe Shelley. Joined by her step-sister Claire, the lovers run away together, abandoning Mary's family and Percy's wife and children. Quickly they learn that life on the run isn't all romance and poetry. Amid experiments in free love and wild adventures with the “mad, bad, and dangerous to know” Lord Byron, the young lovers face devastating losses. As times get desperate, the one thing connecting Mary and Shelley is their writing, a shared love that brings them together as they help each other write what will turn out to be some of the most famous works of literary history. Based on real events and interspersed with the timeless writings of these legendary authors, The Aziola’s Cry by Ezra Harker Shaw will quickly become a favorite among reader’s who enjoy classic literature and biographical fiction.

Harker Shaw becomes History Through Fiction’s eighth author and the first from outside of the United States. While other novels by History Through Fiction have centered upon real historical figures, The Aziola’s Cry, which is set for release in April or May of next year, will be the first that can be considered biographical fiction. Founded in 2019 by author and historian Colin Mustful, History Through Fiction publishes novels that combine elements of fiction and nonfiction in order to tell stories that are both entertaining and educational. By publishing well-written, compelling historical novels, books by History Through Fiction bring history to life while also acting as important historical resources.
