History Through Fiction, an independent press located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is excited to announce the signing of New York Times Bestselling author Alina Adams
Alina Adams is the NYT-bestselling author of soap-opera tie-ins, figure-skating mysteries, and romance novels. Born in Odessa, USSR, Adams immigrated to the United States at age seven and learned to speak English by watching American Soap Operas. After receiving her B.A. and M.A. in broadcast communications at San Francisco State University, Adams worked in television as a writer and researcher. Years later she penned the As The World Turns book tie-in, Oakdale Confidential, which became a New York Times bestseller. Adams continued writing and is now a prolific and innovative writer who has authored more than a dozen books, both fiction and nonfiction. Her latest release, The Nesting Dolls, is a Soviet-Jewish historical novel published by HarperCollins in July 2020. Her upcoming novel, My Mother’s Secret: A Novel of the Jewish Autonomous Region, a follow-up to her previous historical novel, is set for release in November 2022. Adams lives in New York City with her husband and their three children.
Set in 1930s Russia and WWII Poland, My Mother’s Secret opens in 1988 with the death of Lena Mirapolsky’s father, who hints at a secret with his final words. Lena presses her mother, Regina, for the truth behind her father’s last words only to discover the harrowing story of her mother’s past. Regina, having fled Moscow during the first of Josef Stalin's 1930s purges for the Jewish Autonomous Region of Birobidzhan, becomes torn between the man who steals her heart, and the one who can keep her alive in a dangerous time. She chooses love, but to avoid Siberian exile her newfound love, Aaron, must join the Russian war effort. Desperate to be with Aaron, Regina travels west just as the Germans begin their invasion of the Soviet Union. After the birth of their daughter, Lena, Aaron is captured and sent to a German POW camp in Poland. Against all odds Regina carries Lena across war torn areas and disguises herself as a German nurse in order to enter the camp. Months later, when the war ends, she makes a heartbreaking choice to protect her young daughter. When Lena finally discovers her mother’s secret, she and her mother return to the Soviet Union to fulfill Regina’s promise to the man she loved.
